Practical Ed Tech Tip of the Week – Multimedia Collages to Review the Year

Screen Shot 2014-12-14 at 6.57.53 PMThe end of 2014 is quickly approaching. This is a great time to review 2014 or at least the first semester of the 2014-2015 school year. Creating multimedia collages is a great way to have students review the year. They could create collages about the year in politics, science, entertainment, or other news. Your students could also create multimedia collages to summarize important events in their lives and the life of the school. Earlier this week someone on Twitter suggested creating multimedia collages to showcase moments from a school event like a homecoming dance or band concert. Here are a couple of tools that I like for creating multimedia collages.

PicCollage is my go-to iPad and Android app for creating multimedia collages. It is a free app that allows you to quickly arrange pictures, video, text, and stickers into collages. From the app you can share your collage to Google Drive, Instagram, Facebook, Dropbox, and many other file sharing services. You can also simply save your collage to your tablet’s camera roll. A video tutorial on PicCollage is embedded below.

PicMonkey is a web-based tool for creating image collages. If you import your PicMonkey collage into ThingLink you can create a multimedia collage. I demonstrate that process in the video embedded below.

Here’s my PicCollage of some of my favorites moments in 2014.
