How to Create a Podcast in Six Minutes or Less

If you have ever wanted to start a podcast but got deterred by complexity of publishing it, Anchor.fm is the tool that you need. Anchor.fm recently launched a new web-based audio recording and publishing service that enables anyone to publish a podcast. In this video I demonstrate how to create and publish podcasts on Anchor.fm.

As I mention in the video, Anchor.fm will distribute your podcast to iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, Stitcher, Overcast, and Pocket Casts. You don’t have to take any additional steps beyond hitting the “publish” button to get your podcasts distributed to those platforms. Of course, your podcast will also be available directly on your Anchor.fm podcast profile page.

Anchor.fm lets you record directly in their web app, on their Android app, and on their iOS app. But as demonstrated in the video, you can also upload MP3 recordings that you have made in other programs like Garage Band, Audacity, or even Vocaroo. Using the upload option could be a great choice for classroom podcasts in which students record episodes and then you upload them to one account that you manage on behalf of the whole class.

Update 3/6/18: Since publishing this post many teachers have asked me for a recommendation on which microphone to use. On Mac, Windows, and Chromebooks I love the Snowball iCE made by Blue Designs. For iPads, iPhones, and Android devices I like Insignia’s Omnidirectional lapel mic. (Disclosure: affiliate links).
